Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.

City officials said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.

An important representative commented the incident made him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
